COUNTRY FOR WOMEN'S HEALTH INTIATIVE Every day 1 600 women and over 10 000 newborns die due to complications that could have been prevented Between 15% and 71% of women in the world have been victims of physical or sexual violence by a male partner 61% of adults living with the HIV virus in Sub-Saharan Africa are women An estimated 100 million girls under the age of 18 will be married in the next 10 years An estimated 14 million teenage girls become pregnant every year It is for all of the following reasons that I have started the Country for women's health initiative. Too many women in developing countries such as Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Afghanistan and India and in industrialized countries such as the United States are dying from diseases that could either have been prevented or be prevented with more resources or through more research. The Country for Women's Health Initiative has been created in the hopes of making a difference in the lives of these women. The initiative aims at raising funds for organizations that work towards improving the health of women, in many different ways, whether it'd be through research, through advocacy or field work. This initiative was build to help those who live to help women and society in it's whole. As the director of the Country for Women's Health initiative, I am proud of what we are aiming to do, but it is as a women that all of my pride of this Initiative takes its fullest form. As women living in North America, we so often take for granted the health hazards that millions of women face on a daily basis in countries such as Haiti. That is why the Initiative is so important. As women we often struggle alone to overcome obstacles but the Initiative believes that it is by uniting our forces that we will be able to overcome the biggest challenges: overcome gender disparities in access to health services, destroy the stigmatization that accompanies some diseases that affect women and improving the global health of women For you men out there, don't worry, the Initiative does not plan to leave you In the dust of women. We are firm believers that in order to accomplish a long-term accomplishment, men need to be involved in the improvement of women's health; a notion that is often neglected. Men in developing countries as well as industrialized countries are often considered the walls that holds the community together. The Initiative believes that men are an important pillar in society but a pillar that largely depends on women. It is for that reason that men need to be involved, because they largely influence public policies and are often at the top of the command chain. The Country for Women's Health Initiative is a young and fresh look at the ways made possible to improve women's health.
